About Bashir
I am Bashir Kazimi, originally from Ghazni, Afghanistan. I did my pre and intermediate school in Navor, Ghazni, and my high school studies in International Afghan Turk High School in Mazar Sharif. In 2007, I did an exchange year in Kenton, Ohio, the United States through the Youth Exchange & Studies (YES) program. Afterward, I got the Turkish Government Scholarship to pursue my undergraduate studies in Computer Engineering at Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara, Turkey. I got my masters degree in Artificial Intelligence at Polytechnic University of Catalonia, in Barcelona in 2017. Then I went on to pursue my Ph.D. in Geodesy and Geoinformatics at Leibniz University Hannover in Germany. Since April 2021, I am working as a researcher in deep learning for x-ray tomography in Helmholtz Hereon Research Center.
Having come from Afghanistan, and that from an ethnic minority group (Hazara), I count myself as one of the fortunates to have accomplished what I have accomplished thus far. Yet, I have come across many hurdles and struggled a lot along the way. I can't even imagine the thousands of others who did not get the same opportunities as I have. Therefore, I would like to help and be part of any organization that paves the way for such individuals in order to make things easier for them. I am hoping to be of any kind of assistance through the UniArk foundation.
